Are Men Preferred for Ecommerce? - 2008/03/13 17:09
A March 13, 2008 article in the Wall Street Journal, called Fashion Online: Retailers Tackle The Gender Gap, suggests that men spend more money than women online and are less picky.
This makes for an interesting concept. The marketing swing in the past few years has been towards baby boomer women. That they are the ones making the purchasing decision. Does this article mean that businesses are finding these women too hard to deal with and too picky? That they prefer the regular old guy again?
A big point in the article is the value of time. They say men will purchase faster and compare less because we value our time more. I'm not sure if this is true, but I do know that my wife spends much more time comparing prices and looking for coupons. I'm pretty sure it is not because she values her time less. Instead, it's because she is more web savvy and knows where to go for the best deals.
So, the real question is this...should marketers take another look at men's buying habits and bring them back into the mix more?
