Re:Launching for the First Week in July! - 2006/06/27 08:15
Scharlene, Be happy to offer some suggestions & humorful motivation at the same time.
Unfortunately, I can not credit who wrote this (lost it somewhere) but it's a great summary for the best ways to promote your website launch:
10 Commandments of Web Site Promotion
1. Thou shalt devote oneself fully to the task. 2. Thous shalt put thyself into the "shoes" of the visitor. Only be concerned about their needs and wants. 3. Thou shalt be a sponge and soak up everything related to thy site. 4. Thou shalt steal from worthy competitors. 5. Thou shalt strive to be like Gumby, always and forever flexible. 6. Thou shalt change thy website in accordance with what you learn from your consumers. Act on feedback. 7. Thou shalt honor thy search engines whether they be friend or foe. 8. Thou shalt take a hard-nosed approach and cast out forever pet ideas that don't bring in the masses, for they are false gods. 9. Thou shalt take at least one hour per day to promote thy website. 10. Thou shalt not spam.
Overall, it looks like you are doing the things I would recommend online. Including: - working with the media (don't forget to actually flush out and contact your best media contacts, just sending a release is not enough-build relationships), - joint marketing: make sure to do more than just exchange links. Create a program and communicate often with ways to increase business for both sides. Email newsletters are great for this.
- Without knowing specifics, it's hard to comment on whether your goals are realisitic or not. But, as long as you have a plan, and are working on completing the actions or objectives related to it, you should be well on your way to getting there.
- Being smart about how you market is important, especially on a limited budget. Cross promotions is a great way to build exposure using someone's budget as a supplement. Just make sure you have a clear and exciting message and create a promotion that has a high perceived value in the eyes of the consumer.
I also recommend checking out the STRATEGY/PLANNING category, specifically the PROMOTIONS area for some templates that offer free, low cost, and other promotional ideas. You can register for free and it will help to keep this response from becoming a novel!
