Re:Need business advice - 2006/02/16 22:16
George, First, you may have heard, "anything that's too easy is probably not worth getting".
Second, it sounds like you have lost control. Why are you just coasting along? When you coast it's easy to blame others for your situation. Only you can determine where you want to go and how you will get there.
I'm sure you've heard real life situations of people getting lost in a forest, ocean, desert that died only a few feet from salvation. If only they had stayed true to a course. If only they had gotten help before it was too late. If only they had not lost the will to keep moving. If only...
Running a business is no different. You must keep moving towards a goal. A goal that your passion dictates. Without a goal or focus, you might as well be drifting out at sea without a paddle.
It's time for you to make a decision. Not based on what others think you should do. It's a simple decision with huge implications. Ready? Do you want to continue the way you currently are?
No. Are you sure? If you go down this path, you must be willing to leave everything else behind. Burn those bridges. The way you have been working needs to completely change. If you are not willing to do that, you are actually saying you want to continue the way you are. If that's the case, I wish you good luck. Keep your chin up. Go get 'em.
Still reading? Want more? Ready to take life by the horns and get what you want?
Step 1. Answer these questions:
1. To be successful in your business, what key processes need to be performed?
2. To reach your goals, what key objectives need to be achieved?
3. What key position do you want to hold in the marketplace?
4. Where do you personally want to be in life?
5. What is it going to take to get there?
Whatever answers you come up with, write them down. Read them daily. Change your life and business to focus on just those things. Attitude and positive reinforcement are the secrets to any successful business.
Step 2: Start a Success Journal
At the end of every day, sit down for about 5 minutes and look back at your day. Write down those things that you feel good about. i.e. delivered a well received presentation, called 2 new prospects, got a compliment from a client, etc. NOTE: This is not a place to think about the things you did not do or could have done better. This is a Success Journal. One that you will be able to look back on and see all the positive things you have accomplished over a period of time. You will be absolutely amazed at how much you do that you dismiss or overlook, or forget.
The best part of a Success Journal? When you are feeling down or nervous or any other negative vibes, grab this book and start reading. After a few pages, I guarantee you will feel better. The funny part of human nature is that we always tend to focus on the negative and not give the right credit to the positive. This is one way to get around that.
Try these small steps. Let me know if they work for you. They have for me and many others that I have shared my thoughts with. When you are ready for bigger steps, call us. We can help you set up a solid business plan.
