Re:Free advertising or publicity - 2006/06/14 20:07 Successful ski areas commonly get free advertising and publicity by:

-holding charity events and working with the charity chairman to get publicity.

-inviting media personalities to ski.

-encouraging environmental groups to visit and work with the area to enhance the natural experience.

-being alert for any event at the area that could be used to generate a press release--a special outing or day for minorities, women, or kids for example.

Re:Free advertising or publicity - 2006/06/14 20:12 Sure.

For area promotions, you can track sales that occur during the promotion itself--or from the coupons you give to participants.

For publicity pieces, one way to measure return is to convert the size of the article or amount of TV/radio air time to what it would normally cost you to purchase that space or time. If a picture is included, multiple your result by four.

A commonly accepted marketing goal is for your unpaid publicity to exceed the value of purchased advertising time or space by 25%.
