Re:What's Mambo? - 2006/02/16 22:04
Mambo (formerly named Mambo Open Source or MOS) is an open source content management system (CMS) to create and manage websites through a simple web login. It also does a great job of automating many tasks such as site mapping, integrated RSS feeds, printable versions of pages, news flashes, forums, polls, calendars, search, and a variety of other possibilities.
Mambo won the Best Free Software Project of the Year from UK magazine Linux Format in 2004, and the Best Open Source Solution award from the editors of LinuxWorld Magazine in 2005.
Joomla! started as a fork of Mambo version 4.5.2.
As with other database driven websites these are a dream come true for marketers but a fairly complicated task for IT to set up and maintain. Hosting can be pretty complicated and only certain types of ISP's will deal with these sites.
We recommend these sites for anyone with an extensive in-house marketing and IT team or for anyone willing to work with the site from an ASP (application service provider). ASP's take care of all the technology for you.
