Launching for the First Week in July! - 2006/06/24 16:31 Dear Samantha,

I read your comment for "Äds for new Business" and decided to answer a few of those questions here. After reading can you let me know what other forms of advertising or direct marketing you would suggest for our organization to have a successful first month launch.

Anyone can answer this if they have additional tips to offer.

We are an internet based business specializing in business mentoring.

1. Who are the people you are trying to reach as a potential customer base?

We are targeting entrepreneurs, existing business owners and students

2. Why have you selected this method to market yourself?

We have done and will continue to do alot of our marketing online to target other virtually based businesses.

We submit through on line press release services and have created various alliances with other business owners and exchanged banner buttons

We market offline to specific types of business owners whose industries we are interested in having them represent via our member directory.

2. What are your sales goals now, 3 months, 6 months, a year?

We hope to have at the very least 50 members join our organization upon the first month of launch either in a business mentor or mentee role.

In three months we would like to have had an additional 16 members join, calculated at 8 members joining per month.

3. How much money do you have set aside to get new business?

We have money set aside, but we are relying largely on cross promotions, traffic to our site from guests interested in participating in our online workshops and teleclasses a refferal program and offline ad marketing through a new business ad marketing campaign.

4. What processes do you have in place to handle new business? i.e. phone number, who's answering the phone, mailing address, follow up flyers or brochures, pricing, etc.

We currently have a virtual receptionist company answering our company calls. Our address is listed via our site and flyers can be downloaded directly from our website

5. What makes you different from everybody else? What makes you special? Why would someone want to do business with you rather than a competitor?

We are a soley virtually based business mentoring organization, that will be offering industry specific mentoring and career guidance to aspiring entrepreneurs, students and existing business owners.

We would hope that they would do business with us because we will be offering a variety of services all in one place and they will not be required to leave their home or office to get to us. Anyone can participate from a remote location.

We conduct the majority of our workshops and trainings online via multi-media conferencing.

Re:Launching for the First Week in July! - 2006/06/27 08:15 Scharlene,
Be happy to offer some suggestions & humorful motivation at the same time.

Unfortunately, I can not credit who wrote this (lost it somewhere) but it's a great summary for the best ways to promote your website launch:

10 Commandments of Web Site Promotion

1. Thou shalt devote oneself fully to the task.
2. Thous shalt put thyself into the "shoes" of the visitor. Only be concerned about their needs and wants.
3. Thou shalt be a sponge and soak up everything related to thy site.
4. Thou shalt steal from worthy competitors.
5. Thou shalt strive to be like Gumby, always and forever flexible.
6. Thou shalt change thy website in accordance with what you learn from your consumers. Act on feedback.
7. Thou shalt honor thy search engines whether they be friend or foe.
8. Thou shalt take a hard-nosed approach and cast out forever pet ideas that don't bring in the masses, for they are false gods.
9. Thou shalt take at least one hour per day to promote thy website.
10. Thou shalt not spam.

Overall, it looks like you are doing the things I would recommend online. Including:
- working with the media (don't forget to actually flush out and contact your best media contacts, just sending a release is not enough-build relationships),
- joint marketing: make sure to do more than just exchange links. Create a program and communicate often with ways to increase business for both sides. Email newsletters are great for this.

- Without knowing specifics, it's hard to comment on whether your goals are realisitic or not. But, as long as you have a plan, and are working on completing the actions or objectives related to it, you should be well on your way to getting there.

- Being smart about how you market is important, especially on a limited budget. Cross promotions is a great way to build exposure using someone's budget as a supplement. Just make sure you have a clear and exciting message and create a promotion that has a high perceived value in the eyes of the consumer.

I also recommend checking out the STRATEGY/PLANNING category, specifically the PROMOTIONS area for some templates that offer free, low cost, and other promotional ideas. You can register for free and it will help to keep this response from becoming a novel!

Let us know how it works out! Or if you have other questions, feel free to give me a call directly at 740-815-6925.

With Regards,
Samantha

What they're saying...
“The VIP Program works! It's been a lifesaver to know I have somewhere to go with my marketing questions. Especially, when the radio, TV, newspaper, yellow page, and other advertising sales rep's come calling. The $49 is worth every penny and more.”
