Re:Looking for new project tips - 2006/02/16 22:33
Starting something new can be both exciting and terrifying at the same time. Although you did not mention the nature of your project, there are a few basic things that can help on any project.
A long time ago, in a far, far, away land when I was starting a 5 year project that was an immense undertaking, an old mentor of mine told me something I never forgot and have used as a mantra every since. He said, "eat that elephant one bite at a time". His point was to set the major goal (a finish elephant/project), but to follow a path of mini goals or elephant parts/project parts. It made me laugh and pointed out that anything is possible if planned out and taken accordingly.
With any new project, there will always be unknowns. How you deal with them can make or break the project. Constant learning and increased knowledge of the subject matter at hand will help you deal with unknowns faster and more effectively.
Lastly, motivation will help you finish what you start. Motivation creates persistence and persistence is what gets a job done. Stay positive, look forward, and believe you can be successful. If you don't, you probably won't.
Good Luck, Samantha
